Tevin’s EK Civic

Its almost impossible to know exactly what you want when it comes to a show stopping drag car. It takes research, patience and an eye to see the potential in a car others might not be able to envision. Not to mention the delicate balance of form and function; arguably more difficult than the press trying to give Bruce Jenner a title. Fortunately for Tevin’s Honda Civic, there was no confusion when it came to speed.

The broad grin on Pinnocks’ face when he tells the story of his 1998 Honda Civic speaks volumes. He immediately began making upgrades to the car. The head of the motor was from a Civic Type R which made home to Skunk2 Pro 2 cams. The lower half of the engine is a CSS B18B block, stuffed with Wiseco pistons and Manly “turbo tuff” rods.

Next in line was the turbine. Precision’s 6266 turbo was hired for the task at hand, whipping out 10 pounds from bolt-on. Ultimately, his goal to be tuned and turning up the boost to 25 pounds-inserts broader grin here.

The old red colour was next and since he wanted to ensure there wasn’t a weight issue he was insistent that no Filler be used on the car. The transition went from a boring red to beautiful candy gold on the exterior and candy red under the hood. It took 2 paint-jobs for the perfect colour to be achieved.  When the sun hits the car at the right angle the true beauty in the colour shines through.

Tevin kept the interior upgrades to a minimum, resisting the urge strip the Civic of all its creature comforts. The front seats where replaced with red recaros from a type r, the back seats were removed as they were still stock seats and as such didn’t blend well with the recaros. There’s a full array of AEM gauges to ensure proper monitoring of the heart transplant.

For the Suspension, he decided to strut his stuff on Blox Drag Series Coilovers. To aid in body-roll prevention, sway bars were installed in front and back. Toyo Proxes R1 rubber gives this beast all the grip it needs.

Tevin’s Civic is fed by 104 octane race gas which is transported to the 1000cc injectors by a 10an line. All that fuel is mixed with Oxygen from the Skunk2 intake manifold and exhales through a 3″ custom exhaust.

In the future the car will get another major upgrade. Honda’s replacement for the B-Series motor, the ‘all-mighty K’ will soon reside in the brilliant red bay of Tevin’s Civic. With only Brembo’s remaining on the upgrade list -for now; sudden stops shouldn’t be a problem. errks!
